I like it as it is! :top:

I will try 2C since I think the stock Hobbyking engine I am using puts the boat over the rating limit with 3c's.
I would try to use another motor with a lower kV-rate together with a 3S battery. This means lower currents and thus less stress for the ESC. :idee2:

OK, I just ordered a 2500kv from HK. Choosing the right one is a bit tricky since the original shaft is 3.2 mm and the coupling also. Most engines come with 4mm shafts. Everything is ready to go now, I just finished the throttle. I'll test the boat when I get back to Paris next week, here there's no suitable pond or lake, just the sea and it's risky to try it in the harbor due to corrosion. Since I'll be making all signs and markings i'd like to get a registration number, is it feasible now or do I need to wait until the boat runs?

Since the boat is complete you can already register it. But don't forget to post some pics (or even better a video) from the running boat, so that you can get access to the pilot's area.

I tried the boat today. It ran very well for maybe 5 to 10 minutes, good speed, good trim, turned well, then it stopped, then I saw smoke coming from the rear. I managed to get the boat back by moving the engine left and right. The prop shaft was seized, totally blocked, so the engine could not run and just burned, there were drops of melted metal inside. I managed to get the shaft out and re polish the shaft and bushing, so now it turns OK but I need a new 2500 kva motor. I'll put back the original 3000 kva motor for some more trials. I did not get a chance to take pics, I was alone and the session was short...

oh that`s sh**. :troest:
I don `t know if its too much, but I prefer the Turnigy SK3 competitio Helidrive. 2700KV on 3s. This motor has got much power ond inside cooling. And about 22 Dollars at Hobbyking ;)
I have this motor on both boats. you can see it t my videos :rc:

Seizing bearings is a common problem for the HobbyKing / TFL / OSE Mini Outboards. The pollished shaft will run again for now, but will eventually seize again. The problem is a wrong choice of material for the bearing witch is messing. You are not the first with this problem, and will certainly not be the last!

The cure: put in metal-teflon bearings, or bronze. How is discribed here.

For the motor, like Topchop already mentioned SK3 motors are a good choice.
Gruss, Lex

Thanks, I'll try and improve the bearing. The motor I just burned is a Turnigy SK3 aerodrive 2836 - 2500kva
