I need to start thinking about power and RC gear before I go too much further. I'd really like to cover the front hull in polyester cloth and not have a hatch, think I saw a build on here where someone did that? Think they had a sliding floorboard.

Welcome to 152VO.

Ps use epoxi and 25-40 grams of fibreglasscloth, not polyester.
What could possibly go wrong?

You don't need fiberglass or other fabric. 80% of our boats have only clear coat (1-K or 2-K). My boats are only planked with 0.6mm (top) or 1.0mm (bottom) plywood and sealed with clear coat.

Hi Steve
tell me, why do you have ordered the building kit of the spitfire? When I see the quality of your Atomite, I believe you'll not impressed by the kit of the spitfire.

Realy nice build! :top:

Best regards, Kay

Thanks Kay, I ordered the spitfire kit right at the start when I first discovered 152VO, I saw a few builds of it on here and thought it looked pretty good. We'll see what it's like when it arrives. I then got impatient and without a current project in the workshop decided to build another type from plans "as practice". I'm glad I did as I have been learning little things along the way (just wish I had of written them down so I could remember them :-( )

I have built some 1:1 scale boats before (just small sailing dinghy and kayaks etc) but never RC boat - but the principles are all the same.

Thanks, yes something like that, that looks nice and strong. Is there something that goes over the back part of it as well - to stop it lifting?

When I mentioned polyester cloth I was meaning to cover the forward deck with. I use it to build skin on frame kayaks with (like in my profile pic)

I need to order all my running gear and as this my first boat I don't really know where to start, well I have an idea but is it possible for someone to give me a "shopping list" please.

I've seen that the most common outboard is this one (sprint F3 tunnel hull):

photo from Hobby King hobbyking.com/en_us/sprint-f3-tunnel-hul....html?___store=en_us

Is that correct? Also while we're here I see that this one has water cooling - do I need to install a pickup in my hull or is that the water pickup tube I see hanging down from the motor? Also.... I've seen pics of some outboards with really cool retro hoods/covers - do people make these themselves or can they be bought somewhere?

Is there a particular servo that everyone uses?

Radio/receiver/battery I can pretty much work out myself. I have a set here already from an aircraft but it's the stick type so might just get another set (pistol type), they're cheap enough these days.

I just need a bit of help with the boat specific stuff - motor/servo/steering gear etc

Hi Steve,

yes, this is the common outboarder.

yes, the cooling is the tube hanging down from the outboarder.
I use the Turnigy Marine 60A speed controler in all my boats and I cool it with the same tube which I use for cooling the motor.

There is no common servo, look for a waterproof servo with metal gear. You can find cheap ones on aliexpress.com
I ordered a servo which was only 22 dollars.

For the covers ask Lex. We print it by ourselves with a 3D printer.

Thanks for that. So those hoses are quite flexible? I mean for the cooling tube that goes from the outboard up to the ESC as it has to flex with the outboards movement/turning?

I don't suppose you have a photo of your setup with all the tubes attached?

Also, where do we get the rigging blocks from?

Hi Steve,

here is the website where you can order the rigging blocks. Not cheap, but the best!
www.cap-maquettes.com/

Fotos of my setup will be uploaded in a few minutes.

Hi Steve, flexible silicone hoses, otherwise steering is not possible:

From the outboarder to the ESC, Turnigy Marine 60A:

From the ESC outside the boat:

The blocks from Cap Maquettes. The steering wheel is my own construction.

Here you can see the steering wheel in action:

Thats great Rolf (I think thats your name) pictures say much more than words (it's a pity most of the build logs no longer have their pics available).

What size blocks are those - about 5mm?

Also what diameter silicone hose? I don't have my motor yet so can't measure anything.

Sorry for all the questions but I don't have any model shops where I live so I have to order everything online (and 90% from overseas as well) and I like to order as many things as I can at once otherwise the shipping to New Zealand kills me.

many thanks
cheers
Steve
